Interiors: A romantic landing makeover with eco friendly paint.
I always said once I’d get my landing painted that I’d know I was getting near to the house being ‘done’. Well… at least for the first round of decor. So it’s a real pinch me moment when I wake up in the morning and pad out to my landing where the light streams in and lets the colours sing where I’ve painted the space at the top of my stairs. I knew this spot had potential and when I first moved in it had some generic office drawer units gathering dust around them on the very old, gross brown carpet.
A few weeks after I moved into the house I peered under that disgusting brown carpet and found there were some decent floorboards. So with some coughs for dramatic effect and a tip run later the floorboards were uncovered but then they just sat… for almost 2 years. At some point I had applied some testers thinking I would paint them but then I pulled the laminate up from the bedrooms in stages and realised how having the floor natural would bring a warmth throughout the upstairs.
The sanding of the floors is another post and I want to focus on the decor mainly today. There’s still things I want to do on the landing - sand back the bannister and I also need to finish the bathroom floor. They’ll also be a bit of a tidy up in between the landing and guest room on the floor - I will probably fit a low profile threshold on all of them just to give a point of difference.

The walls.
I started by stripping the old wallpaper, luckily it came off much easier than the wallpaper in my living room but still took a day of binging Mel Robbins podcast. Some really ancient wallpaper towards the top just wouldn't budget though so I took the orbital sander to it to sand it even so when I painted it would look like a smooth wall.
I then used Earthborn’s Lifestyle Paint in Feather Pillow from Fresh Lick. This is such a beautiful colour and perfect for what I wanted - it’s a beautifully pinkish tinted white/neutral and teamed with the colour I chose for the doorframes (more below) it’s absolutely beautiful. Earthborn paint is all eco friendly and very low to no VOC. The lifestyle paint drys to a flat matt finish but is durable which is essential for a space like a landing and the paint changes hue depending on time of day it is, when the golden light streams in in the mornings and evenings the landing looks so warm and romantic. In the day it’s crisp and warm.
The doors.
I went for Earthborn’s Eggshell in Muddy Boots from Fresh Lick for the doors. I initially went with their eco chic and realised this was a missable as it is very flat matt and wipes away fairly easily is pressure is applied. So I sanded it all back lightly and went again with the Eggshell. Muddy Boots is a warm brown with almost a bit of a plummy rose feel to it. It matches with Feather Pillow beautifully. I hadn’t clocked that the top bits of the doorframes are glass as the previous owner had painted over them but after someone asked on Instagram I checked by knocking them and sure enough they were.
Finishing Touches.
Something that really bought this space together was the breathtaking wall hanging from Studio Coverdale. It marries together the palette and creates that extra romantic drama. I love the feel it brings. A secondhand mirror bought off Marketplace makes the space feel a lot bigger and the bookcase nods to the mid century feel I love so much. And of course plants are always a must for me. I’m on the hunt for the right piece of furniture to sit underneath the wall hanging - watch this space!
