Skincare is booming. It has been for decades and there’s so much of it it’s hard to know what will be right for our skin. And then there’s the manipulative greenwashing - clever marketing speak that make it seem like you’re doing good by buying the product. But here’s the thing - you really don’t need extensive, expensive skincare routines that you feel guilty for not doing. The best thing you can do for your skin is to make sure you are well hydrated every day and have good fats in your diet (I love this fish oil).
My skincare routine has been natural and cruelty free for over 10 years. I have not only tried but also worked with many of these brands producing photography for them. I have go to brands that I rely on and trust. And my consumption is careful - using up what I have before buying anything new.
Today I wanted to share my current 5 skincare heroes - the products I’m not without.
Pai Impossible Glow Drops.
I came across these by chance - they were in a local tabletop sale and having used the brand before and loved the product I snapped them up. I’m not sure what I’d do without them now! The golden pigment illuminates but they are also designed to soften skin. You can blend depending on how shimmery you want to go, I blend a few drops into my day moisturiser and they give me the most amazing dewy skin. You can also use an illuminator as your last make up step. In the winter I use champagne and in summer the rose gold.
weleda plumping day cream.
This cream is just a delight - it feels so luxurious and makes my skin feel so lovely as a base for my makeup. Formulated with maca root peptides and extracts of olive leaf oil this cream makes the skin feel more elastic and firmer. I mix it into the Impossible Glow Drops (above) and find with the combination of the two I don’t need to use foundation as my skin feels pretty flawless with these two products.
weleda skin food.
Another amazing product from Weleda. I’ve been obsessed with this cream since someone gave me a little bit of it when I had dry hands at a nutrition lecture some 15 years ago. It’s so good for gardeners hands and if you’re feeling a bit sunburned at the end of a day. I know it’s a bit of a cult product for makeup artists as a base under makeup.
Evolve nightly Renew Face Cream.
I’ve been using this cream for so long. I love how nice my skin feels in the morning when I’ve used it and it feels so luxurious to use at nighttime - while it is a simple act of applying a moisturiser it feels luxurious and a moment of advocating for my skin. It has a natural peony extract that aims to boost cellular activity and plant based retinol to smooth and revitalise skin while you sleep.
Evolve Daily defence Moisture Mist.
I really miss this spray when I run out because I use it for so much - first thing to wake me up, over makeup to lock in moisture, a final mist over moisturiser at night and throughout the day when I need a pick me it/moment of luxury. It’s particularly good on a long haul flight for which I always order a mini bottle. Containing prebiotics and prickly pear I find it feels soothes and hydrates my skin and the subtle rose and orange scent is so lovely.
