Conscious Clothing Care with Attirecare
“Along with the rise of mass-produced products in all sectors, came a lack of concern for care products. However, as we become more conscious of what we buy and how we live our lives, we hope people will use our products to look after their things once more.” - Attirecare
As we become more aware of the impact of our clothes buying - both on the planet and those that make our clothes in the mass market - we are all seeking different options for attaining attire. But something that is often overlooked is how we look after our clothing and the energy we use while washing our clothing.
Here’s a few facts:
we wear our clothes on average of 4 times per garment (which is a thoroughly sobering stat)
25% of our carbon footprint from clothing comes from the way we care for them
The way we store, wash and what perfumes we spray on our clothing all have an impact on how long the material will last
dry cleaning is a chemical heavy process that’s hard on our clothing and he environment
a lot of washing detergents contain ingredients that are harmful to our planet, especially our oceans
Washing at 30°C can reduce your electricity bill - going from 40 to 30 degrees for example can save up to 60% of the energy consumption
On a recent shoot I was introduced to a clothing care brand that is sold in the mass market and it piqued my interest - here was the idea that there are ways to extend our clothes lives as well as reduce our impact using detergents and energy in our keenness to keep our clothes clean and odour free.
I looked into the brand and it was produced overseas and while the ingredients list seemed fairly friendly the packaging, scents and overall message needed some work. So I hit a search and trawled the pages to find an alternative. I was so happy to find Attirecare - everything about the website, the message and the products spoke to me.
I’ve been using their products for a few months now and I really love them. The glass bottles look beautiful on my shelf and they are a delight to pack when filling a case and I decanted some into a travel spray bottle for camping and it was such a great way to keep my hiking and camping clothes feeling fresh and took the inconvenience out of needing to find a launderette to wash clothes.
The Prima Garment Spray contains all natural and biodegradable anti microbial and anti bacterial agents that not only prolongs wear between washes but also neutralises odours and caring for the fibres of your clothing. It’s made with a blend of essential oils - Sandalwood, Cedar, Rosemary, Lavender a Pine - that are woody and comforting and my clothes smell divine in the subtlest of ways.
The Denim Spray has the same effects but is formulated with Ylang Ylang, Birch & Orange Blossom^ essential oils that sit on the surface of denim and neutralise bacteria and microbes.
Attirecare also do a range of other products including shoe care, home cleaning and upholstery care (which I’m investing in very soon). Check their range out here.
Note - these products were found, bought and tested on my own accord, Attirecare don’t know I’m writing this post so you know I am recommending these products from my heart!
Wondering how mornings look in the van and how I take care of myself while travelling. This post goes through my morning routine where I set myself up for a day of exploring!
