Are Newsletters the Future? Five to Sign Up To Now.
You’ve got a Brucey Bonus post this week as I felt compelled to write this one and wanted to shoehorn it in the the already scheduled posts coming up.
Those of you who get the TIDE Times (sign up at bottom of page) will know where I’m at with Instagram at the moment. And it’s got me thinking a LOT. How instantaneous everything is and how actually, perhaps the platform has just changed to match the more lucrative audience, people that are more likely to buy. I just don’t feel at home there anymore, but also, I never planned on this platform as just an Instagram feed. There’s stories to be told, collections of photos and content to share that doesn't ft on a square.
I’ve seen a fair few people who I’ve followed for years on Instagram talk recently about changing the way they post, introducing in newsletters and when I was coaching photographers last year I banged on about having one. I do think it’s the future, I will admit to being an inbox geek with it organised to every inch of it’s life but In relish he idea of a mid morning Saturday cuppa and a catch up on my newsies.
So, I made the decision to commit to the TIDE Times being a weekly newsletter instead of a monthly one. At least for the next few months to see if the time commitment is sustainable for me. I’m excited about it! Excited about writing more, sharing weekly content and being held to account for it. I love putting together content here so it was time to dedicate more time to it. Of course, the inner arguments are coming up: “you’ll never fit it in” “you’ll have noting to write” “you need that iPad you’re saving up for before you can do this”. But, as Andrea Anderson terms it, the ‘shitty committee’ can do one.
In celebration of this new format for TIDE I’m sharing five of my favourite newsies you can sign up to right now that are brilliant. There are so may great newsletters I could feature here but these five are the ones I ALWAYS open and read and genuinely look forward to.
James Clear - The 3-2-1 Newsletter.
James Clear wrote an incredibly successful book called ‘Atomic Habits’ a few years back. It’s soooo good. In it he references his commitment to his newsletter - it comes every Thursday and it sent to over a million people. In it he includes 3 short ideas, 2 quotes and a question to ponder. It’s dynamite and you need it in your life.
The Anna Edit - An Edited Life Newsletter.
I used to work with Anna and take it from me, there is no-one as organised as Anna! She is On. It. Every shoot would be organised, ready, easy breezy because of the workflows Anna has. Her book An Edited Life should be on every shelf but her newsie has always got some gold in it, whether it be organisation tips, general life stuff or life goals. Scroll down the homepage halfway to get it.
Nick Cave - The Red Hand Files.
If you’re not already signed up to this, click below and get on it immediately. Brighton local Nick Cave answers a fan question in each of these newsies and frankly, I just don’t know what words I can use to describe his answers that will do them justice. Just sign up and see for yourself, you’ll be glad you did. While you’re there you can catch up with the old ones on the site too.
Positive News.
We all need a bit of that in our lives don’t we? Like the magazine, the Positive News newsie is like a big hug and never fails to surprise. They are so good at highlighting the good things going on and will restore your faith in big corporations a bit (ok, not all of them). Scroll to the bottom of the homepage to sign up.
Kirsty Gallagher - Lunar Love Notes.
Since reading Kirsty’s book I can’t get enough of her clear and easy to understand knowledge of the moon and how we can plan around it to generally just live a more enlightened life. Her Lunar Love Notes newsie comes with info about the moon phase we’'re in and you’ll wonder what you ever did without this gold hitting your inbox. Scroll to the bottom of the page to sign up.
